We at SWPW have noticed that many of the saints are very uninformed about keeping their computer free from the attacks that the enemy would use to stop them doing our Lord's work. We are committed in not only protecting your soul from the enemy, but by keeping you connected to our Lord through the internet.
To discuss this, we need to break this subject up into several parts.

Before we talk about what software you need, lets talk about getting into a habit of weekly or fortnightly house cleaning our computers.
To combat viruses there are many good brought Antiviral programs that you can purchase, but there also are a couple of free ones that rival the brought programs.
The two that I would bring to your attention are Avast! free home version [for your stand alone computer] and AVG free [that works on a network].
I hope that you DO NOT open any attachments that you download in your eMail whithout first checking them with your Antiviral software.
SPYWARE AND ASSOCIATES.
There are many software tools on the internet that will combat what we class together as spyware. These are the tools that I have come across as the ones that work the best to keep your computer online.
You should Open/ Update/ and Use each of these tools each week or after you download ANY software, not just free software.
Info About it.
|Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a surprisingly effective freeware antimalware tool. It's a relatively speedy malware remover, with the quick scan taking about 8 minutes even with other high-resource programs running. The heuristics engine proved on multiple computers during empirical testing that it was capable of determining the difference between false positives and dangerous apps.
The app has some nice features rolled in, too. It supports multiple drive scanning including networked drives, context menu options including a scan-on-demand for individual files, and the FileAssassin option under the More Tools section for removing locked files. The interface is simple, but pleasant-looking and well-organized. Tabs live just below the oversized logo, with few options per tab to keep down the clutter. The installation process was fast enough, but interestingly offered up the well-kept changelog and an instant definition file update.
Do note that the real-time protection is restricted to the paid version, as is the scheduler for updates and scans. Overall, though, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a responsive malware remover that does what it should with a minimum of fuss.
|Avira AntiVir Personal -
Free Antivirus 126.96.36.1995.
|Consistently at or near the top of independent efficacy testers, Avira's AntiVir remains one of the best freeware security solutions around. Its scans are flexible, allowing the user to fully scan both internal and external hard drives, run a preloaded scan--for rootkits, for example--or customize a scan. The latest version introduces antispyware protections, scanning tech that can crack open "locked" files, improved internal security to prevent AntiVir's files from being maliciously altered, and one-click threat removal--no more baby-sitting.
Avira AntiVir Personal Free Antivirus is a comprehensive, easy to use antivirus program, designed to offer reliable free of charge virus protection to home-users only. Avira offers: Extensive Malware Recognition of viruses, Trojans, backdoor programs, worms; Automatic incremental updates of antivirus signatures, engine and entire software; Permanent virus protection, with Virus Guard real time monitoring; Install and configuration in just a couple of steps, setup to protect your PC in minutes; Virus protection against known and unknown threats, using an advanced heuristic system; Scheduler where you can set the scanner to make automatic virus scans or updates on your system; Forum and phone support; Knowledge Base with virus descriptions available on web site; Rootkit Detection and Removal; A modularized AV-search engine for improved scan performance.
Version 9 introduces a quick-removal button for eliminating viruses with a single click, enhanced anti-spyware and anti-adware engines, and support for low resolution netbook screens.

Detect and remove spyware, adware, malware, Trojans, dialers, worms, key loggers, hijackers, parasites, root kits and many other types of threats. Light on system resources and won't slow down your computer..
|Spybot - S&D.
|Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging.
|Ad-Aware Personal can efficiently remove behaviour-tracking spyware; thus protecting your privacy on the Internet. Enhances your computer's performance by protecting against bandwidth stealing programs. Provides greater computer security by removing keyloggers and other programs, which put passwords, credit card numbers, and other vulnerable data at risk online. Allows you to stay abreast of spyware, not just a step behind, thanks to the Code Sequence Identification (CSI) technology
|Windows Defender beta 2 is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Microsoft researchers quickly develop methods to counteract these threats, which are automatically downloaded to your PC, so you stay up-to-date. Specific features of Windows Defender beta 2 include a redesigned and simplified user interface, improved detection and removal, protection for all users, support for 64-bit platforms, accessibility, and localization. This product is free of charge for licensed Windows customers.
|Active Security Monitor [AOL]
|Now there's an easy way to know if you're protected from computer viruses, spyware, identity theft, network intrusions and other security threats. Fast and easy! Get quick fixes and recommendations to help you resolve security vulnerabilities. Perfect for home networks! Always scanning for new threats. No AOL membership required.
|The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks computers running Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software-including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom-and helps remove any infection found. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed. Microsoft releases an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month, and as needed to respond to security incidents. Note - The version of the tool delivered by Microsoft Update and Windows Update runs in the background and then reports if an infection is found. If you would like to run this tool more than once a month, use this version.
| End user license agreements (EULAs) are the bane of most computer users. No one wants to read through pages and pages of boring text before installing a program. And many programs put their license agreements in small windows that require lots of scrolling. So many people either skim them or skip reading them altogether. But it can be dangerous not to read license agreements.
License agreements can provide information about the intentions of software, and other bundled components. Have you ever installed a program, only to have your desktop taken over by advertising? It may have been noted in the license agreement that you simply clicked past. If you aren't reading the license agreements, you have no idea what you could be agreeing to. You should always read license agreements before agreeing to them.
But now there's a way of making that much easier. EULAlyzer can analyze license agreements in seconds, and provide a detailed listing of potentially interesting words and phrases. Discover if the software you're about to install displays pop-up ads, transmits personally identifiable information, uses unique identifiers to track you, or much much more. When installing software, never just click past the license agreement. Pop it into EULAlyzer, and EULAlyze it!
|I Hate Keyloggers.
|This tool will prevent your typing from being recorded by malicious software such as key loggers, spyware, remote administration tools. The software will disable hook-based keyloggers so the keyloggers will not be able to capture your keystrokes. This way you can type sensitive information (passwords, email, credit card number, etc) with confidence. The log file of the key logger will be empty [your keystrokes are not recorded].
For Windows 2000 and Windows XP. [Windows 95/98/Me is not supported. Sorry].
